Jean Butler — Choreographer

Jean Butler has been dancing for over thirty years. Trained in Irish Step Dancing under renowned teacher Donny Golden, Jean has performed internationally with Donal Lunny, Solas, Kila, and the Chieftains. Her choreography credits include Riverdance, Dancing on Dangerous Ground, and The StepCrew. She holds a BA in Theatre Studies from the University of Birmingham (England) and an honors MA in Contemporary Dance Performance from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick where she was also Artist in Residence (2003-5). Her solo work has been commissioned and supported by the Irish Arts Council, The Dublin Dance Festival, The Project Arts Center (Dublin), Daghdha Dance Company (Limerick), and Planxton Productions (Japan). She is currently working on her next full-length work, commissioned by the Abbey Theatre, Dublin.

Joel Hanna — Choreographer and Bodhrán

Joel began his training in Irish Dance at age 9 in Vancouver B.C. first with Magdalene Stewart TCRG, and continued with Tony Comerford TCRG, ADCRG, achieving worldwide competitive success including 3 consecutive North American titles, the Australian Nationals title, 3 Overseas Awards at the World Championships in addition to World medals and belts. He began his professional career as a cast member of Celtic Thunder, Riverdance, and Dancing on Dangerous Ground, before embarking on new adventures that highlighted his multiple talents in other genres such as tap, flamenco, as well as his musical skills. In addition to his teaching and choreography work in Irish dancing, he is Co-producer of the production “Revolution: Sweat, Dance, and Rock & Roll” that debuted at the Joyce Theatre in New York and begins its US tour this coming October.

Craig McGregor — Guitar

Craig McGregor is an accomplished and dynamic guitarist renowned for his versatility in playing and his teaching expertise. He received his musical training at the Musicians Institution, Los Angeles, and has performed and recorded with numerous bands, including the award winning bluegrass band, ‘Great Northern’. He has honed his Celtic guitar chops with artists such as The Tiller’s Folly and Tim Readman. Craig is currently a member of Mad Tradition and an in demand teacher at Celtic music workshops and events.

Martin Nolan — Uilleann Pipes & Pennywhistle

Martin Nolan is a highly respected and accomplished musician and composer who has been playing uilleann pipes for almost thirty years. Born in Dublin, Ireland, his piping is strongly influenced by the 'travelling style' of piping, which employs legato and staccato techniques. As well as being a recording artist and part of the Irish traditional scene, he plays in the Dublin-based band, Khanda, which features the music of India, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Ireland.

Meredith Coloma — Fiddle

Meredith first became an Irish fiddler after working with All-Ireland Fiddle Champions Brian Conway, Gerry O’Connor, and Liz Carroll. Described as the best Irish fiddler of her generation in Canada, she offers to Ceili Camp her outstanding teaching skill and specialized knowledge of traditional Irish music.

Charlene Hart — Conditioning & Ballet

Born and raised in Canada, Charlene Hart twinkled her toes into dance at the age of 3 and has been dancing ever since! She has trained in almost every dance genre imaginable. As a young dancer, she enjoyed many opportunities to perform locally for her community. At the age of 18 she secured employment in the cruise ship industry and spent the next 4 years travelling the world as a dancer on various luxury liners, eventually finishing off as dance captain. Charlene has since moved to New York City to train and is currently breaking through to the Ballroom and Latin world of dance. When Charlene is not performing or studying, you can find her sharing her knowledge and love for dance with her students at Dance In Motion in Abbotsford, BC.

John O’Flynn — Gaelic Games

Vancouver born John O'Flynn is a director of the Irish Heritage Society of Canada and secretary of the Canadian County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. He has been a player and referee of Gaelic games and an elementary school teacher. John has presented a number of workshops on Gaelic Football and he looks forward to all the "craic" with the 2009 Ceili Camp participants.

Director Leslie Wilson, TCRG

Director, Leslie Wilson created Ceili Music and Dance Camp to provide opportunity for participants to become immersed in Irish culture and to enhance their crossdisciplinary cultural skills. Ceili Camp helps build and sustain a rich, cultural community in a fun, multi-generational environment using the highest world calibre instructors to inspire and guide students to achieve their personal best.

Responding to the need for education in the area of Irish culture within the larger Celtic cultural community in Vancouver’s lower mainland and Fraser Valley, Leslie sought to bring outstanding talent from the larger Irish community to expose our students to an understanding of true Irish culture.

Leslie is a 30-year Irish dance veteran and is the artistic director of Scoil Rince De Danaan.
